Periodontal disease, or gum disease, can easily go unnoticed in the early stages because the warning signs are mild. If you have bleeding when you brush or floss your teeth, your gums have bacteria that are causing destruction of your gums. If the destruction continues, the infection can spread to the bone and cause bone loss, pain, and loose teeth. At all your checkups, our hygienists will evaluate your mouth for signs of periodontal disease and other oral problems. For early stage periodontal disease, we may recommend:
- Antibiotic Treatment
- Scaling and Root Planing (deep cleaning)
- Nonsurgical tissue management
If you have advanced periodontal disease, we will refer you to a trusted gum therapy specialist, a periodontist, for treatment.
